To the Players of Medieval Realms

Jan 27, 2025

To the Players of Medieval Realms,

First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you. Whether you’ve been with Medieval Realms since its early days or have recently joined our community, your support, engagement, and passion for this world mean everything to me.

Our Core Principle – Equality

One of the core values that defines Medieval Realms is equality. Every player is treated fairly, with no advantages granted based on status, connections, or favouritism. There is no “inner circle” of players with admin rights who have unlimited free resources, flight, teleportation, or the ability to change the weather or time at will. Additionally, publicly available blueprints cannot simply be pasted into our world, ensuring that every build is earned through effort and creativity.

Medieval Realms is a world where everyone plays by the same rules, and success is determined by dedication, strategy, and community spirit.

Why There Haven’t Been Recent Updates

You may have noticed that there haven’t been many updates to the plugin recently, and I want to take a moment to explain why. Over the past several months, my focus has been on creating the new Medieval Realms website—not just as a static page, but as a hub for our community. This site includes online player stats, essential game information, and a central place for us all to connect.

What some may not realise is that Medieval Realms isn’t developed by a team—it’s a passion project that I balance alongside my professional work and ongoing studies. My real-life workload is exceptionally heavy, and on top of that, I’m also working towards a certification in cybersecurity to further develop my skills. Despite these commitments, I remain dedicated to improving and expanding Medieval Realms because this world—and this community—matter to me.

Building the Website from Scratch

Developing the new website was no small task. I am not a web developer by trade, nor am I a professional programmer. Everything you see—both in the game and now on the website—has been a learning experience for me. I had to teach myself how to build the site from scratch, including developing a custom WordPress plugin to integrate with the game’s database. The quality of the website today is a direct reflection of my commitment to making Medieval Realms as polished and professional as possible—despite the challenges along the way.

What’s Next for Medieval Realms?

As many of you know, Medieval Realms has been running since 2017, and over the years, it has grown into something truly vast. The plugin powering this world consists of innumerable lines of code, spread across hundreds of classes, two databases, and an internal API. Every system, every feature, and every detail has been carefully designed to create the immersive experience you enjoy today.

Now that the website is complete, I can shift my focus back to the plugin and work on refining and expanding the game. However, because of the sheer size and complexity of the system, I need to be very careful with future updates—the last thing I ever want is for anyone to lose progress or for the world we’ve built together to be compromised.

MR has never, and will never, delete anyones constructions*. As far as I am aware, MR is the only RW server that can say this.

With that in mind, my plan moving forward is to clean up and document the codebase, ensuring that everything is stable before implementing new features. Updates will roll out gradually, with small, carefully tested additions rather than sweeping changes.

Upcoming Update: The New Shop System

One of the first major improvements I’m working on is rewriting the shop system. The previous version included a temporary banking solution, allowing players to exchange gold ingots for crowns. I am now expanding on this to introduce a new shop system, which will soon allow players to earn crowns via additional shops. This is just the beginning of a broader plan to enhance the economic systems within Medieval Realms.

I appreciate your patience and understanding as I continue to build and refine this world. Your support is what keeps Medieval Realms alive, and I am truly grateful to be on this journey with all of you.

As always, I welcome feedback, ideas, and discussions. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a new adventurer, your voice matters. Let’s continue to make Medieval Realms something truly special.

Thank you for being part of this world.
