A Beginner’s Guide

Everything You Need to Know for Your First Steps

Welcome to the Beginner’s Guide!

This guide is designed to help you take your first steps in the world of Medieval Realms.

Take a moment to read the information on the start screens in-game; they offer valuable insights to help you on your way.

Choose Your Race

Medieval Realms offers four races, three of which are playable:

  • Human
  • Elf
  • Dwarf

The fourth race, The Cursed, is a non-playable faction you’ll encounter in your journey. Once you’ve chosen your race, it’s time to select your avatar.

Choose Your Avatar

Each race has 15 avatars to choose from, allowing you to customize your look. Avatar selection is purely aesthetic and doesn’t impact gameplay.

TIP: Race and Character selection is concrete. Meaning once selected you will not be able to change it. However, as new updates come you will be given the opportunity to choose again.

Choose Your Spawn

You’ll have four spawn options based on your race, including the choice to start at Bedridge Castle—the original spawn point from Medieval Realms’ early days—or one of three race-specific locations: Temperate, Tundra, or Arid.

TIP: Bedridge is a bustling hub, and resources like surface ores and food may be harder to find here.

TIP: Each of the 10 spawn points includes a Ritual Site. You can use Magic (at the cost of 50 Mana Points) to portal between Ritual Sites. All players start with 50 MP, which gradually increases to the current maximum of 200 MP.

TIP:  You are better off to start life in a Temperate biome. You can choose to start in Tundra or Arid – if you wish – but you may find it exceptionally hard. If you have spawned in one of these and have changed your mind; use the Ritual Sites and your X Key to portal to a more hospitable Temperate biome.

First 6 Hours – New Player Probation

During your first six hours, certain restrictions apply:

  • Land Claims: You won’t be able to claim land, meaning you can’t protect placed assets or constructions.
  • Destroying and Removing: You won’t be able to destroy or remove any construction or object, even those that you place. (We’re working on an update to allow new players to remove their own misplaced constructions and objects.)

These limitations are designed to ensure a fair experience, as Medieval Realms has over a thousand players, many of whom have claimed land. Probation helps prevent casual or transient players from locking down land unnecessarily.

This time allows you to explore, gather resources, and find an ideal spot for your future home while crafting your first items.

TIP: During this first six hours of gameplay, keep valuable items in your player inventory!

IMPORTANT: Land Deeds are what protect your land and your constructions. Please note that if you do not log into the server in six months, your Land Deeds change state from Protected to Vulnerable. When your land is in a vulnerable state, this means that other players can take over your land and everything on it!

Earning Crowns

Crowns are the foundation of the MR economy. Here’s how to start earning them:

  1. Survival Time: Every 30 minutes of gameplay, you have a chance to find some random crowns.
  2. Mining Gold: Mine gold ore, smelt it into ingots, and sell them at the Bank in Bedridge Castle.
  3. Finding Gemstones: Venture deep underground (-200 or lower) to discover gemstones, which can be instantly sold to boost your balance. In the future, gemstones will require a trip to the Gemstone Shop once custom items are back in the game.
  4. Bounties: Earn bounties from killing players in PvP mode or bandits and cursed NPCs.
  5. Looting: You can explore and loot player bases who’s protection system has lapsed.

First 6-48 Hours – Extended Probation

After six hours, you can buy your first land deeds. This is your chance to put down roots and start building!

48+ Hours – Full Membership

Once you reach 48 hours, all probation restrictions are lifted, making you a full member of the Medieval Realms community. Congratulations on joining us in this epic adventure!
